System Specs & Platforms
PC only at launch on Steam, Mac in a later patch, 16 GB of RAM as the floor, and a Deck build that a developer plays but that Valve has not certified.
Star Trek: Outposts Unknown launched on October 20, 2026 as a PC title on Steam, with Mac support promised for a later patch. That is the short version. The longer version matters if you are deciding whether your machine can run it, or whether the Steam Deck in your bag is a real option.
System requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10, version 21H1 | 64-bit Windows |
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-8500 | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Intel Core i5-14600K |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1660 (6 GB) / AMD RX 5600 XT (8 GB) | NVIDIA RTX 3060 / AMD RX 5700 XT |
| Storage | 10 GB | 10 GB |
Two things stand out. First, 16 GB of RAM is the floor, not a suggestion — this is a logistics simulation with a lot of moving crew and stock, and the game does not offer a low-memory mode. Second, storage is modest: 10 GB is small for a modern strategy title, which is good news for laptop players.
The developers were explicit that the minimum spec runs the game at reduced visual fidelity rather than refusing to start. If you are near the line, expect to drop settings rather than to be locked out.
Mac, consoles and everything else
- Mac: announced as coming in a future patch. There is no date.
- Consoles: the original announcement mentioned PC and console ambitions. At launch, Steam PC is the only storefront.
- Steam Deck: a developer has said they play it on Deck and that it runs well, while noting Valve has not issued the green check yet. That is a candid answer, and it means the practical experience is likely fine while the badge is not there.
- Controller: partial. Players report some actions work with a controller, but the opening quest chain can be awkward to navigate without a mouse. If you plan to play handheld, expect to use the trackpad for menus.
Languages
The game ships with eight interface languages and full English audio:
| Language | Interface | Full audio |
|---|---|---|
| English | Yes | Yes |
| French | Yes | No |
| German | Yes | No |
| Spanish (Spain) | Yes | No |
| Spanish (Latin America) | Yes | No |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | Yes | No |
| Simplified Chinese | Yes | No |
| Polish | Yes | No |
For a narrative-driven builder, the audio gap is worth weighing: the campaign is carried by writing and voice, and only English gets the full treatment.

Difficulty, before you buy
Difficulty is selected when you begin a journey and cannot be modified afterwards. That single design choice is the most important thing on this page: if you are new to colony builders, start lower than your instinct suggests, because the logistics curve in the mid-game is steep and there is no slider to rescue a struggling save.
